Decked Out: Vancouver’s Best Neighbourhoods To See Holiday Lights

  • There are plenty of amazing Christmas light displays around the Lower Mainland that are fun for the whole family! From VanDusen Botanical Gardens’ annual Festival of Lights all the way to The Peak of Christmas at Grouse Mountain, there’s a place and theme for everyone.

Looking for a more low key way of enjoying the sparkle of the season? We’ve sourced a few of the best spots around Vancouver to see great light displays. These communities have really kicked it up a notch to celebrate the season and add a little light to the mid-winter gloom.

The Best Residential Display of Christmas Cheer

Every year, residents of the  2400 – 2900 blocks of Trinity St. near the PNE engage in a friendly light display competition that benefits the whole community. Park (or transit), then walk along the dazzling houses and participate in carolling, hot chocolate stands and more!

The Best Lit House on the Block

Voyage over to 4967 Chalet Place, North Vancouver to marvel at over 1,000,000 lights on one property. That’s right: one single house puts in months of loving attention to deck more than just the halls. If you’re in the neighbourhood, they do take donations; 100% of which to the Harvest Project, the BC Epilepsy Society and Shriners Care for Kids.

The Best Park For Holiday Lights

Take your evening stroll up a notch at Town Centre Park in Coquitlam. The Lights at Lafarge are a 1.2 km trail that loops around the lake in multiple themed zones. There’s free 2-hour parking in Lot D of Town Centre Park off Trevor Wingrove Way, or get off at Lafarge Lake-Douglas SkyTrain station if taking transit.

    The Best Floating Lights Display

This floating “community” puts on a parade of lights several times throughout the season. Grab some hot chocolate on Granville Island or in Olympic Village, then stay cozy as the Carol Ships glide past and enjoy the lights and choirs as they glide past. Check the schedule for sailing times.

The Best Way to See ALL The Lights

Hop on The Vancouver Trolley Karaoke Christmas Lights tour and Christmas carol your way through the town, from VanDusen all the way to Stanley Park’s Bright Nights Train on a decorated trolley equipped with a karaoke machine.
