Commercial Drive is known for its kid-friendly vibes, and the parks in this East side neighbourhood are no different. Did you recently buy a house in the area? Then we’ve got your guide to the best parks for kids on Commercial Drive just a hop, skip and short stroller ride away from home.
The Granddaddy of kid-friendly parks is right on the Drive at Charles Street. Grandview Park features an extensive playground with climbing apparatus for both little and big kids as well as slides and all the usual suspects kids love at a playground. Including something fun for adults: a log ‘table’ carved from a 537 year old cedar tree that blew down in Stanley Park.

Head South and veer off the Drive two blocks to Victoria Park at Victoria Drive and Kitchener. The benefit of being off the main drag is it’s a little quieter on weekends and holidays. In addition to a playground, Victoria Park has a large sand area, dog-friendly space, and plenty of trees for a lovely, shaded afternoon.

When it rains, as it’s bound to do in Vancouver, head over to Cafe Deux Soleils at 2096 Commercial Dr. Not only is it one of the city’s best vegetarian restaurants, it features a large indoor play area so parents can rest and chat while children get their dose of exercise.
Better known as Trout Lake for the large fresh-water beach at its center, John Hendry Park is worth the few minutes car or bus ride South of Cambie. With plenty of green space for games and picnics, it also has a community center, water sports, dog off-leash area and sports amenities. The walk around the lake alone is plenty of adventure making it without doubt one of the best parks for kids on Commercial Drive!
