One of Vancouver’s highlight events is the annual fireworks competition which lights up English Bay every summer. Catch amazing pyrotechnics by the United Kingdom Wednesday, August 2nd and Canada on Saturday, August 5th.
So where are the best places to watch Honda’s Celebration of Light? We’ve got the top locales all mapped out for you.
Top of the list is naturally closest to the action. Unobstructed views–save the people in front of you–of the fireworks and barge are best from this official site. It also features live music, food trucks and more before the real show even begins. Ticketed areas offer the best views, and if you’re early enough to snag a seat on a West End patio, even better!
Alternatively, the family friendly vantage point from Stanley Park’s Second Beach has a Family Zone for younger members to enjoy, as well as a stage for more live entertainment. You might miss the lower fireworks, but overall a more chill vibe than the festivities in English Bay while still being downtown.
For unobstructed views, family-friendly vibes, and less traffic to deal with than heading downtown into the action is Vanier Park. Enjoy a relaxing pre-show picnic in one of Kitsilano’s premier parks, and a favourite among residents of both Kits and Fairview.
If you love people watching, Kits Beach is one of Vancouver’s best see-and-be-seen beaches with a spectacular view of the pre-show sunset.
Parking is a nightmare on fireworks nights. So as you can imagine, public transit will be packed and cabs at a premium. Plan ahead and walk if you can! Getting to your desired viewing location early is your best bet anyway, to stake out a good spot. Lastly, don’t forget your radio! Each fireworks display is set to a soundtrack, so tune in to 104.3FM. Find out everything you need to know from the official Honda Celebration of Light Festival Guide online.
