The Best Tricks for Treats This Halloween in Vancouver

  • We love Halloween! The one night a year you can play dress-up, eat candy, and partake in festive frights. We’ve rounded up some of our top tips for making the most out of All Hallows’ Eve with the whole family here in Vancouver.

    Rules of Engagement

If the light ain’t on, don’t come a-knockin’! Guiding children to be respectful of other people’s properties is paramount in continuing this time-honoured tradition. This is the opportune time to get to know your neighbours, and bad first impressions tend to be lasting.

    Where to Trick-or-Treat

The 2400 – 2900 blocks of Trinity Street are a favourite, attracting some 800 candy-seekers a year. This historic section of East Vancouver, near Playland, gets all tricked-out for the occasion.

Have young ones? Check out trick-or-treating in Yaletown at local businesses between 3:30pm – 5:30pm, complete with a Carnival at the Roundhouse Community Center.

Dunbar Village is a fantastic strip on the Vancouver Westside for families to trick-or-treat, hosted by the Dunbar Village Business Association on Saturday, October 29th from 3pm – 5pm. Heading out on the 31st? Dunbar residences, as well as neighbouring Point Grey and Kerrisdale neighbourhoods are great for a spooky evening.

    Safety First

Some things to keep in mind before heading out on the big night: never go it alone or enter a stranger’s house! Light-coloured costumes or reflective tape are musts for dark nights; always carry a flashlight. Never let your kids eat the goodies until they’ve been inspected. If you’ve got older kids, make sure you know their Halloween plan: Who, What, When, and Where!

    Alternative Outings

Is Trick-or-Treating passe in your household? Why not hop aboard either the Stanley Park Ghost Train or Vancouver’s Haunted Trolley Tour for a thrill ride! Ghost stories and spooky sights await those who dare.

Just 20 minutes south of Vancouver is Richmond Country Farms where the whole family can search out the perfect pumpkin in the patch, enjoy fresh eats, see the animals and make your way through the corn maze.

Join the zombie craze in an interactive theatre adventure, The Zombie Syndrome. Back for its fifth season, audience members search for clues to the zombie plague while outrunning the walking dead.
