    Christmas on the Drive 2018

    This exciting annual event is sure to bring Christmas cheer for the entire family, and is proudly produced and funded by the Commercial Drive Business Society.

    For the 7th year in a row Christmas on the Drive returns to Commercial! Bring your friends and your family to share in the joy and laughter of the Christmas season with free pictures with Santa, horse-drawn carriage rides down Commercial Drive, sing along to seasonal live music, or visit the Kids Zone, featuring a caricature artist, balloon-twisting clown, face painter and craft area. Stay for the main event of the evening when the Christmas tree is lit at 5:00pm.

    102.7 The Peak’s Not So Silent Night is only in its second year, but it already has become a local favorite way to kick off the holiday season.  On December 6th, head down to the Commodore Ballroom and dance the night away to Black Pistol Fire and Hollerado before a DJ takes over to carry this holiday dance party late into the night.

    Benefiting Covenant House Vancouver – opening doors for homeless youth

    Partial ticket proceeds will benefit Covenant House Vancouver.  102.7 THE PEAK will also be accepting donations at the event for Covenant House Vancouver’s Christmas Backpacks Campaign.

    From now until Christmas Eve, Jake Poole Plaza hosts the annual Vancouver Christmas Market.  This is the city’s ultimate Christmas celebration and after one visit you will soon see why. Complete with delicious food from around the world, stunning Christmas light displays, live seasonal entertainment, and games and activities for the entire family you can’t help but get into the holiday spirit when visiting the Vancouver Christmas Market.

     

    St. Paul’s Hospital’s Lights of Hope

    The display is built by volunteers using donated materials, including strings of lights that would measure 10 km if laid end-to-end and almost 200 stars recognizing donors to the campaign.

    It wouldn’t be a proper Canadian Christmas without decoration, and nobody does it better than the St. Paul’s Foundation.  For every year since 1998, the organization has dazzled the local community with stunning Christmas light displays in support of caregivers, patients, and their loved ones.  The display itself is comprised of over 100,000 individual lights and covers over ten kilometres. Stop by for a quick visit and enjoy Christmas carols, marvelous lights, food trucks on the street, and maybe even a visit from Santa Claus himself!

     

    Canyon Lights at Capilano Suspension Bridge Park

    Time: Holiday activities from 4:00 – 9:00pm; Park is open from 11:00am – 9:00pm daily

    Re-capture the feeling of wonder and excitement of the holiday season and be amazed by the hundreds of thousands of lights throughout the park. The suspension bridge, Treetops Adventure, Cliffwalk, the rainforest and canyon are transformed into a world of festive lights and visual enchantment.

    Once again the 30-ton Douglas firs of Treetops Adventure will receive star treatment. Treetops Adventure is a series of seven suspension bridges attached to eight 250 years old Douglas-firs with viewing platforms, reaching up to 110 feet above the forest floor. These magnificent Douglas firs will be lit above and below the collars, making these trees the eight tallest Christmas trees in the world!

    Back by popular demand, go on a Snowy Owl Prowl, decorate gingerbread cookies (by donation)  and sing-along carols with the holiday band.

     

    Bright Nights at Stanley Park

    Bright Nights Train – come experience the lights, breathtaking displays, and live performers along the train route.

    When: November 29, 2018 to Saturday, January 5, 2019 (closed on December 25 for Christmas)
    Time: 10am – 11pm (matinee train ends at 2:45; evening train commences at 3pm)

    During the holiday season, the Bright Nights Christmas Train and Stanley Park Train Plaza sparkle with three million twinkling lights.

    Buy tickets to ride the Bright Nights Train and experience the lights, breathtaking displays, and live performers along the train route. Or view the displays at the Train Plaza by donation ($5.00 suggested). Tip: to avoid the crowds come visit the lights during the 1st 2 weeks of December.

    Partial proceeds from ticket sales go to the BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund, which helps burn survivors and their families. $1.4 million has been raised since 1998.

    Train ride prices are $6 for everyone on the matinee train; the evening train costs $12 for adults and $9 for seniors and youth aged 13 – 17 years, and $8 for kids 3 – 12 years. Small children aged 2 years & under are free.

    Festival of Lights at VanDusen Botanical Garden

    During the month of December, VanDusen Botanical Garden is transformed with hundreds of thousands of lights for the Festival of Lights. Enjoy the magic of the twinkling dancing light show set to music on Livingstone Lake, hear the sounds of carolling , ride the carousel or get your picture taken with Santa (until December 24th).

    This is an incredibly popular event, so it is advisable to buy tickets in advance. All admission tickets include 1 FREE ride on the carousel and photos with Santa.
