Ringing in the New Year With Family

  • Champagne toasts, resolutions, black-tie parties or a cozy night at home with the ball drop on TV. What New Year’s Eve looks like changes with time, obligations, and even where you’re living. But the one constant we hope is you’ll be spending it with your nearest-and-dearest. Make it an unforgettable night for the whole family with our list of top ways to spend the annual momentous occasion:

    1. Robson Square is hosting an all-ages New Year’s Eve celebration for the seventh year in a row. Revitalized for the 2010 Winter Olympics, Robson Square has since become the heart of downtown Vancouver. To ring in the New Year as a community, they’re offering live music, kids’ crafts, DJs, and ice skating, as well as an early countdown at 7:30pm–all for free. So bundle up and join in the fun!
    2. New Year’s Eve Fireworks will be happening for the first time in over a decade downtown Vancouver! The festivities start at 6pm at Canada Place Way between Howe and Burrard Streets, with Early Eve Countdown Fireworks at 9pm and a Midnight Countdown at 12am. The family-friendly free programming includes live music and Premium Ticket Viewing options at the CF Pacific Center Lounge.
    3. Stanley Park’s Bright Nights Train is a cherished tradition featuring 3 million twinkling lights, Christmas displays, and live performers along the route and additional displays and holiday treats at the Train Plaza. Donations and a portion of the ticket sales go to the BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund.
    4. Ring in 2016 from 5pm onwards at the peak of Vancouver on Grouse Mountain with live performances, skating on the 8,000-square foot mountaintop pond, magical Light Walk, and the new Sliding Zone. Snack on traditional treats and at the First Nations híwus feasthouse, then catch the early 9pm countdown.
